Wrightwood is a census-designated place located in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 3,837 at the 2000 census.
Geography
Wrightwood is located at 34°21′21″N 117°37′45″W? / ?34.35583°N 117.62917°W? / 34.35583; -117.62917 (34.355921, -117.629233).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 5.7 km² (2.2 mi²), all land.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 3,837 people, 1,486 households, and 1,056 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 673.4/km² (1,742.4/mi²). There were 2,319 housing units at an average density of 407.0/km² (1,053.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 90.93% White, 0.34% African American, 0.65% Native American, 0.76% Asian, 0.18% Pacific Islander, 2.74% from other races, and 4.40% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 8.78% of the population.
There were 1,486 households out of which 35.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.2% were married couples living together, 8.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.9% were non-families. 23.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.58 and the average family size was 3.08.
In the CDP the population was spread out with 28.6% under the age of 18, 5.6% from 18 to 24, 27.9% from 25 to 44, 28.1% from 45 to 64, and 9.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 105.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.4 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $50,338, and the median income for a family was $57,197. Males had a median income of $51,424 versus $40,045 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $22,902. About 5.8% of families and 6.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 5.9% of those under age 18 and 14.3% of those age 65 or over.
Downtown Wrightwood is dotted with many old resort cabins from the 1930s.
Politics
In the state legislature Wrightwood is located in the 17th Senate District, represented by Republican George Runner, and in the 36th Assembly District, represented by Republican Sharon Runner. Federally, Wrightwood is located in California's 26th congressional district, which has a Cook PVI of R +4 and is represented by Republican David Dreier.
Mountain High
From the road leading to Mountain High North is a great summertime view of the East and West trails.
Just west from the City of Wrightwood sits Big Pines, CA, which hosts Mountain High Resort, which is a ski/snowboard resort consisting of Three Mountains. It is frequented by residents of all of Southern California. Because of this, Mountain High has become the most visited resort in Southern California. |
